Xplore Europe like a pro with these helpful mobile apps
In this world of technology, everything gets simpler just with a few clicks, be it your daily chores, ordering grocery, booking a cab or even planning a vacation. Sharing a few helpful mobile apps that I use to plan my Europe travel and ensure to install them during traveling.
GoEuro (now Omio)
This is one fantastic app on which I bank upon when it comes to booking my travel. It gives you an option to search for the flights/train/buses in one go for a particular destination. I explore all the possible dates with the cheapest mode of travel and pick one wisely. Sometimes, you get flights cheaper or equivalent to the trains. You can select the language and currency of your choice and explore the beauty of Europe through this app.
You can also check SKYSCANNER for the great flight deals.
Airbnb
Once the travel is booked, the next questions come where to stay. After having kids, we prefer Airbnb over the hotels. You can explore and book a place that meets your requirement. The points I look for before booking are the location of the property, distance from the main city, airport/railway station and sightseeing spots, well equipped and functional kitchen, ratings, and reviews by the earlier guests, cost, facilities and cleanliness, Host background, floor number, lift availability and most importantly, the safety. So far, I have stayed in 6 Airbnbs and had a wonderful experience.
Vistacity
So your tickets and stay are booked, now you need to figure out the places you would be visiting. My go-to app is Vistacity for creating my itinerary. You can choose the destination and number of days, set the dates and plan your trip with this brilliant app. It plans your trip day wise and also alerts you if there is any conflict in terms of opening or closing timing of any particular sightseeing spot. You can add or remove the places as per your choice.
Roadtripper, TripHobo, Google Trips etc. are also a few trip planning apps which you can consider and see which works best for you.
Local Public Transport App
Now you are set to go out and discover Europe. Do some homework beforehand and install the local public transport app on your phone. Like in Poland, it is Jakdojade, in Austria, it is Quando and so on. Every country in Europe has a well-managed transport system so you can save some Euros avoiding taxi travel. Just understand the ticket punching system and you are sorted. Also, there are day passes which can be used in all the modes of transport, explore that too.
Local Taxi App
Though traveling in public transport is quite convenient and cheap as compared to the cabs and taxis but keeping any emergency situation in mind, install the local taxi app also on your phone. If you are getting late to catch your flight or unable to figure out the public transport initially, a taxi can be your savior. There are many options like Mega, i-taxi, Uber, etc.
Google Maps/ Local Offline Maps
This is my most favorite app while traveling. The part of traveling in Europe is that it is quite self-guided. If you have a good internet connection and a decent map on your phone, you are the king/queen. Before leaving for the vacation, try to download the offline map of that particular country. It saves your internet while traveling for other purposes. In case you get lost, you can cross check with google maps as well. As I love to stop and smell the roses, feel the culture, talk to the people while traveling, so walking is the best mode for me. Maps and navigation serve the purpose well.
Revolut
As I had shared in my last post about Revolut Card and its usage, this app is a must-have in my phone so that I need not look for an ATM or worry about the cash while traveling. Just a click and the money will be transferred to my account.
So, these are the 7 helpful mobile apps which I absolutely love and recommend when it comes to planning your Europe trip. Would you like to add or recommend any other too?
