My learnings in the last 1.5-years and tips for the new bloggers from my personal experience #SuperBloggerChallenge #Instacuppa
After my First post in this challenge, I got many queries from the new and budding bloggers about the writing challenges I had shared. They had many other blogging related queries also so I thought of writing a post about my experiences and learnings which may help the novice writers in their journey. I am neither an expert not a pro in blogging but in the last 1.5 years of my writing journey, I have gained a few lessons which I would like to share:
Consistency is important:
This is a thumb rule that I follow and advise the new writers too. Be consistent in writing. Write something or the other daily, not necessarily it is a blog, it can be anything, your daily routine, any experience, any wish or anything under the sun. Post a blog every week, more the merrier but be realistic at the same time. 4-5 blogs every month is a good number.
Read, read, and read:
Reading is equally important in the blogging journey. It broadens your perspective, vocabulary and helps you generate new ideas and explore new writing styles.
Build a community:
Remember, blogging is not just about reading and writing. It is about networking and building a community of like-minded writers. Engaging on other blogger’s posts, reading, commenting and sharing them is a vital part of blogging and should be taken very seriously.
Experiment:
When you read and write regularly, you come across many different genres and writing styles. Try to incorporate them in your writing as well. Experiment with your style and you never know you end up doing much better in a new way, new style.
Focus:
Keep your focus intact when you sit to write, without any distractions in mind. Keep your phone away, close all the other apps in the background and enjoy your company with your pen and paper or for that matter, keyboard and monitor.
Participate:
This is one point which I am quite vocal about and have shared the benefits of participating in blogging challenges earlier too in my posts. Join the blogging communities on social media (Facebook, Twitter) and keep an eye on the upcoming contests. Participate in as many as you can, depending upon your suitability, interest, time and bandwidth.
Don’t copy:
Be original and never copy the content of others. Plagiarism is a serious offence. Don’t get disheartened when you see another blogger writing on the same topic what you had in your mind. Remember, topics are the same, only the way of presenting them is different. Like, the recipe of some XYZ dish remains the same, but how your present it is different. Same goes with travel posts, the destination can be described vividly and differently by the different writers.
Write content that is useful for your readers:
Try to write the content that gives the solution to a problem or that help your readers in any way. Don’t just write for yourself. This does not mean you should not write musings. I myself started sharing random musings and do it till date but at the same time, try to write on the topics which people can relate to and connect with.
Learn the blogging terminology:
Once you start writing, you get to hear many words which you have no clue about. Like in my case, I didn’t know what SEO, google analytics, pinning, tweeting, story etc. are all about. So, once you step into this area, it is advisable and beneficial for you to learn the basics of SEO, keyword search, backlinks, required and important plugins etc.
Promotion is important:
Right marketing of your blog is very important. Just writing and publishing your blog is not enough, your job is yet not over. People will not get to know what you have jotted unless you share it with the world. Use the right platforms / social media to promote your articles regularly. Don’t be all over the place at one time and don’t spam by sharing all your articles in one day. Pick up a day to share on different groups. Brand building is one of the most significant parts of blogging.
Don’t expect success overnight:
It takes time in building your followers and reader base so have patience, keep doing a good job, focus on your content quality, promote your blog well and the rest will follow.
Hope you enjoyed reading my post. Share with me what are your learnings and takeaways from your writing journey.
